The Richard F. Primiano Scholarship was established in honor of Alpha Phi Delta’s 38th National President and long-serving Scholarship Trustee, Richard F. Primiano. A dedicated brother, Primiano joined Alpha Phi Delta as a sophomore in 1960 at Beta Delta Chapter, Temple University. He quickly took on a leadership role, serving as Pledgemaster his senior year and helping to revitalize the chapter with a record 22 pledges. Primiano graduated in 1963 with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and, though initially he lost touch with the Fraternity, he later reconnected as a member of the Philadelphia Alumni Club. Over the next two decades, he served in multiple leadership roles, including President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer of the club.
Primiano’s commitment to Alpha Phi Delta only deepened with time. He stepped up as District Governor when longtime leader Matt LoMonaco retired, and his dedication continued with his attendance at National Conventions from 1974 to 1980. When Tony Carfang became National President in 1980, he appointed Primiano as Vice President for Financial Affairs, where he worked alongside Executive Secretary Stan Raffa to support Central Office. In 1982, Primiano was elected Executive Vice President and traveled extensively to visit chapters and alumni clubs. In 1984, he was elected National President, serving with unwavering dedication during his four-year term.
Following his tenure as National President, Primiano continued his service as a Trustee on the Alpha Phi Delta Foundation for eight years, including a term as Chairman. His contributions were recognized in 1991 when he received the National Outstanding Alumnus Award. He later served as Treasurer of the Alpha Phi Delta Foundation, Scholarship Division, demonstrating his enduring commitment to the Foundation’s financial health and growth.
Professionally, Primiano became a Certified Public Accountant in 1966 and established his own accounting firm in 1977, often serving fraternity brothers among his clients. He married Beverly in 1976, and together they raised two sons, Steven and David. This scholarship honors Primiano's lifelong dedication to Alpha Phi Delta, his leadership, and his service to the brotherhood.
