The Frank Cavallaro Memorial Scholarship was established to honor the legacy of Frank Cavallaro, a dedicated and influential leader within Alpha Phi Delta. As the fraternity’s 22nd National President and a longtime expansion chairman, Frank played a pivotal role in the fraternity’s growth and success. A graduate of New York University in 1939, Frank remained deeply involved with Alpha Phi Delta from his initiation as a freshman throughout his life.
Frank held numerous leadership roles, including Third District Governor (1951–1954), National Vice President (1948–1950), and National President (1954–1956). He served on and chaired several national committees, leaving an enduring mark on Alpha Phi Delta’s history. As chairman of the Music Committee in 1951, he secured national adoption of two of the fraternity’s most beloved songs, “Our Fraternity” and “Fraternity Sweetheart.”
A passionate advocate for expansion, Frank served on the Expansion Committee for many years, during which the fraternity saw the installation of numerous new chapters and the reactivation of others. His commitment to the fraternity’s growth extended to alumni engagement as well; he was instrumental in establishing several alumni clubs and served in leadership roles as Treasurer of the Alpha Phi Delta Resort Association of New York (APDRANY), Treasurer of the Third District Endowment Fund, and President of the Brooklyn Alumni Club Reactivation Group. He was a central figure in organizing Third District functions, bringing members together and strengthening fraternal bonds.
In all his endeavors, Frank was joined by his wife, Anne Serna, who was an unwavering support, attending conventions, executive meetings, and fraternity socials by his side. Frank’s life was a testament to loyalty, dedication, and brotherhood; his passing on August 24, 1980, from ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease) at the age of 62 left a profound void.
The Frank Cavallaro Memorial Scholarship honors his remarkable contributions to Alpha Phi Delta and his legacy of leadership and service. This scholarship keeps his spirit alive by supporting those who continue his dedication to Alpha Phi Delta’s growth and success.
